Information evening this evening in Mohill Library on proposed new school

Dundalk a pilot town in initiative to increase number of multi-denominational schools

An information evening is taking place this evening, Thursday, June 8, at 6.30pm in Mohill Library on a proposal to open a new type of school in Leitrim.

The School of Empowering Education is a democratic, student-led learning environment where each student chooses how and what they learn.

Every student and every member of staff has a say in how the school is run. This builds community, responsibility and empowerment.

There are no fixed curricula, homework, teachers, or schedules to follow. Students are trusted to choose how to spend their days.

Staff are facilitators, rather than teachers, with their role being to help expose students to new ideas, to help students recognise their genuine passions and how they best learn and to co-create the school community based on our key values of respect, equality, inclusivity, and care of the Earth.

A film screening and information on the history of other democratic schools in Ireland will take place with lots of time for questions afterwards. The event will finish at 8.30pm.

All welcome.
