Irish musician Niall Breslin will take to the River Shannon as he attempts to kayak the full length of the river to raise money for A Lust For Life youth mental health programmes. The charity event will take place between June 30 and July 6 with Bressie starting his kayak journey at Dowra/Carrick-on-Shannon.

On the GoFundMe page, Bressie said: “Myself and some good friends and kind souls have taken on this huge challenge of kayaking the length of the River Shannon.

“We have no kayaking experience. We just felt the metaphor of the river really mirrors life. There are some beautiful and calm parts, and there are rough and challenging parts. We intend to start at the source of the river on 30th June in Dowra and make our way to Limerick city just under King Johns castle on the 6th July.

“We will be joined along the way by some well-known faces and there will be events in the towns and villages along the way where we will take to opportunity to reach out to local communities and share our work and message.

“Your donations go a very long way and will contribute directly to getting these programmes into schools. I really appreciate your help. We need to support children and we need to do it now.”

People can donate on the GoFundMe page online: ‘A Lust For Life ‘Rising Challenge’.
