Young people leaving rural Leitrim due to building rules

Kiltyclogher national school has seen a decline in numbers

Many young people are leaving rural Ireland because of the difficulties to build a house in their rural communities, Cllr Sean McDermott said at a recent council meeting. 
He called on the council to communicate with the relevant Minister on the delay in publishing promised Rural Housing Guidelines which was due to be published in 2022. 

He noted that three rural schools in his area are down in numbers, including Kiltyclogher, and warned that rural numbers will continue to decline if something is not done. 
Cllr Mary Bohan seconded the motion saying that the issue has been raised by all members.
