Roads are being restored using old materials
Roads and road materials are being recycled in County Leitrim, it was revealed at a recent meeting where Cllr Paddy Farrell called on the District Engineer to explain why the “very dangerous road at Ohill Cross was not completed”, a motion that was also put forward by Cllr Thomas Mulligan.
The official response stated that a Municipal District meeting last year heard the Council would commence the works as a priority with its recycling contract. “This is still the case and we are awaiting tender returns from specialist contractors and we will programme the Oghill public local road to be carried out as our first recycling grant. It is expected that this road will be completed by September."
Leitrim County Council District Engineer, Darragh O'Boyle said the Council is aiming to reduce its carbon footpath through these works and “Oghill Cross is the perfect example of this where we can recycle the road and seal it.”
Cllr Sean McGowan supported the motion.
Cllr Thomas Mulligan welcomed this approach to road works saying "I'm glad to hear we are going down the road of recycling road materials."
Road at Kilnagross to be resurfaced
Cllr Paddy Farrell asked that Leitrim County Council seek funding to tar the road from Kilnagross School to Churchpark and create laybys where necessary now that water works in the area are complete.
Chair of the Carrick Municipal District meeting, Cllr Enda Stenson supported the motion saying the road needs to be “resurfaced properly” adding that it's a “busy road” and residents have “endured a lot.”
The official response stated that the district office has secured funding from Irish Water to re-pave and resurface the local road from Kilnagross School towards Gowel Church and will endeavor to complete the remaining section under a separate restoration grant."
