'I'll lead a protest group in here if I have to' - Guckian

Speeding problems highlighted

Councillors highlight speeding on the Drumsna to Kiltoghert road

Cllr Des Guckian has said he will lead a protest group into Council buildings if something is not done about “excessive speeding and noise pollution and the general misery being visited on residents living along the Drumsna to Kiltoghert road.

A report by Director of Services for Economic Development, Planning, Environment and Transportation stressed that the district office has invested heavily on the R299 from Drumsna to the Kiltoghert junction with the introduction of new signage, pavement and road studs and the issue of speeding comes under the realm of An Garda Síochána.

Cllr Guckian's response was that residents have said they “can't sleep at night and are not comfortable in their homes during the day.”

He asked Leitrim County Council District Engineer, Darragh O'Boyle to monitor the situation at “various times of the day” saying that Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) particularly are causing disruption on this stretch of road before remarking "I'll lead a protest group in here if I have to."

Cllr Paddy Farrell agreed with Cllr Guckian saying there is a lot HGVs and there “are a lot of people complaining”.
Cllr Sean McGowan agreed but also added that drivers have "to go about their daily lives and work has to be done."
