In celebration of twenty-three years of sustaining and nurturing creative Irish businesses, The Leitrim Design House National Design, Craft and Art Awards Event and Exhibition take place on August 11, 2023, from 4.30pm in The Dock Art Centre, Carrick-on-Shannon.
These National awards celebrate excellence in design, artisanship and are born out of The Leitrim Design House's continued sustainability as a business.
The prizes and event are made possible with the support of funders from the Local Enterprise Office, Leitrim and Creative Ireland under the Creative Economies Programme with Leitrim Arts Office support.
The Leitrim Design House issued an open call to makers, crafters, artists and designers from across the island of Ireland to respond to the theme of sustainability.
Following an evaluation from our independent judging panel, the first prize of €2,500 will be presented for the best overall submission. The winner of this award will also be invited to a solo exhibition in 2024. A specially commended prize of €1,000 will be awarded to a runner-up.
The high number of quality submissions received is a testament to Ireland's immense skills and creative talent today. A shortlist of ten makers has been invited to exhibit their work and share presentations on their inspiration and processes behind the pieces as part of this event.
The exhibition of work will be judged anonymously by five highly regarded industry professionals and experts, including Eddie Shanahan, Design Consultant and Chairperson of the Council of Irish Fashion Designers; Rosemary Steen, CEO of the Design and Craft Council of Ireland; Eleanor Flegg Craft and Design Journalist; Rhona McGrath, Roscommon Arts Officer; and Joe Lowe, Chair of The Leitrim Design House Board and Head of Enterprise in Leitrim.
The Leitrim Design House Design, Craft and Art Awards Exhibition will continue to be on view for two weeks.
This exciting event includes National networking opportunities, presentations by shortlisted applicants, refreshments along with the awards presentation.
