Ireland’s most loved and respected vocalists play in Mohill

Eleanor Shanley and Mike Hanrahan’s concert takes place in the next Bank Holiday

Two unique talents of the Irish folk music scene, Eleanor Shanley and Mike Hanrahan, will perform in Concert in Mohill this August Bank Holiday, Friday, August 4.

Eleanor Shanley is one of Ireland's most loved and respected vocalists; during her career, the audience enjoyed many solo performances and recordings in addition to her work from her collaborative projects, both recording and live performances.

She enjoys mixing up the sounds within folk and traditional music genres. On her most recent album, 'Cancion de Amor', with John Fallen, the singer brings classical arrangements to the songs.

Renowned for her unique interpretation of Irish and Roots songs, Eleanor has recorded many solo albums, including "Desert Heart", "A Place of My Own", and "Forever Young", released in 2015, being the most played on RTE 1 Radio the same summer.

Eleanor, Dave Sheridan, Padraig McGovern and John McCartin co-created a four-piece focused on traditional Irish music. This project was born with the 2014 The Leitrim Equation programme  (Est. by Leitrim Co Council in 2006). Two years later, the album entitled GARADICE was released.

Other highlights in recent years include being a recipient of the prestigious The Danish Folk Music Award in 2015; Eleanor is only the second Irish artist to receive this honour since its inception.

Mike Hanrahan began his professional career in 1977 with Maurfa O'Connell in a duo called Tumbleweed.

With Stockton's Wing, he dedicated fifteen years as a songwriter, guitarist and singer, followed by ten years with Ronnie Drew as a guitarist, producer and writer.

From 1994 to 2006, Mike was on the board of IMRO Irish Music Rights Organisation - three of those years as Deputy Chairman, and six as Chairman.

In 2019, his book "Beautiful Affair", a journey in music, food and friendship, published by HarperCollins, was shortlisted by the National Book Awards.

Eleanor Shanley and Mike Hanrahan return to St Mary's Church of Ireland Lower Main St Mohill, after they last played in 2019.

Tickets are available for €20 each in Mulveys Carrick and Paul's of Mohill, being limited to 220 of a capacity. Doors open 8.15 pm, and the concert starts at 9pm.
