Another increase in bin collection charges by Barna Recycling was relayed to householders in Co Leitrim this week.
Consumers are angry over a proposed increase in standing charges which has also led to concerns that a further increase will lead to more instances of illegal dumping in the county.
Barna Recycling wrote to its customers this week to say it has experienced a significant increase in its operating costs across many levels.
“In order to continue to deliver the high level of service you have come to expect from Barna Recycling, the cost of your service charge will increase from October 1, 2023,” the letter stated.
The service charge will change from a quarterly billing charge of €36 to a monthly billing of €14 per month.
The charge will be applied to customers' accounts at the beginning of each month.
The weight charge per each bin will remain unchanged at €0.25 per kg for general waster; €0.08 per kg for recycling materials; and €0.08 per kg for foot waste materials.
One angry reader contacted the Leitrim Observer this week in relation to the price hike by Barna Recycling saying that it “is the third price hike within a year from a company that seems to be able to charge whatever they want in Leitrim which is costing households a fortune to put out their waste and may also be contributing to the rising cases of illegal dumping in our communities.”
