Don't miss Apple day at the Organic Centre this Sunday in Rossinver
Locals are being welcomed to join the Organic Centre for their Apple Day festival in Rossinver, Leitrim this Saturday, September 24 from 12 -4pm.
The annual event is free entry and is always hugely popular with locals with something for everyone. This year, Apple Day is set to have another bustling craft and food market to browse and enjoy with all the seasonal sights and smells that usher in the Autumn. There will be a chance to join a talk or tour from the apple and biodiversity experts, with demos of apple pressing and tasting. The apple presser itself has become famous in its own right and when it featured on Ireland AM after weatherman Deric Hartigan visited the centre on earlier this month.
This year the Leitrim Hawthorn Project, devised to research the power of the Hawthorn in the county, will be joining the Organic Centre on Apple Day. There will host a film screening on the project and storytelling with farmer/writer Gerry Bohan, horticultural prose with Wayne Frankham and hawthorn related music and dance with Edwina Guckian. Tara Baoth Mooney will have a Hawthorn tincture and tea tasting stall while Anna Macleod will present an exhibition from hawthorn of prints made in community workshops. Visitors will also have a chance to do your own hawthorn drawings with the project.
Anna Macleod said “We are looking forward to going out to the Organic Centre on Apple Day. We are proud to be able to continue to share the Leitrim Hawthorn Project with the public and also get a chance to hear people’s stories as well on how important the hawthorn has been for them in their lives”
Elsewhere at the venue there will be a buzz of craftspeople displaying their skills including basket weaving, wood turning and stone carving creating a hive of activity. There will be even more for families to enjoy and children's craft workshops. Get a chance to grab your seeds and apple trees from the centres Eco shop. It will be all things apple on the menu with new chef Matt Cater in Grass Roof Café who has been busy dreaming up delights for the occasion. Local musicians are also set to entertain the crowds.
Dervilla Keegan of the Organic Centre said: “Apple Day is one of the highlights of the Organic Centres calendar of free events and this year will even be bigger, with an even larger array of attractions. We are delighted to be joined by guests including the Leitrim Hawthorn project.
We have a strong tradition of people in the region travelling and look forward to welcoming them back once again. We expect a great festival feel to the centre on the day. ”
