From The Leitrim Hills to the Lima Hills
Since 2007 the people of Leitrim and surrounding areas have been supporting the Warmi Huasi projects in Lima, the capital, and Ayacucho in Peru.
This collaboration came via Fr. Ed O’Connell, a Columban father. The fundraising over the years is by way of a charity hill walk and ramble at a location in Leitrim.
Participants have a very enjoyable day out in the fresh air and make a contribution to the charity.
This year the walks will take place in picturesque Glencar on Sunday, October 8th.
Walkers will be treated to stunning views of Glencar Lake and out to the Wild Atlantic Way.
Registration is at Glencar Tea Shed and refreshments will be served there after the walk. Donations to the charity are welcome on the day.
The great news is that Fr. Ed, who is visiting Ireland, will be actually joining the walkers on the day.
Registration is from 10am, the hill walk departs at 11 and the ramble at 11.15. The event is organised by the Holey Soles Hill Walking Group.
The Warmi Huasi project in Peru supports children and their parents living on the margins via reading clubs, after school clubs, school meals, mentoring for job and college applications, nutrition training for parents and advocacy training for the children.
Nuala McNulty, one of the organisers of the event, says, “This event is firmly in the annual calendar for our supporters all over the years.
“People are very engaged with the projects and appreciate the update each year at the event. 100% of the funds raised on the day go to the charity.”
For those who can’t make the walk but would like to support the charity can do that via the Eventbrite page, link on the website below. The organisers would like to thank the supporters for their continued support.
