At a meeting of Fine Gael's Carrick Area Executive last night, Cllr Finola Armstrong-McGuire announced her intention not to contest the Local Elections next year.

The Carrick-on-Shannon businesswoman who owns and operates The Magnet on Main Street, was first elected to Leitrim County Council in 2014 and was re-elected in 2019.

She served as Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council in 2017-2018 and and was elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach in June 2020.

Cllr Armstrong-McGuire told the meeting last night that she will continue to work in the months ahead for the betterment of the town, municipal district and county.

Party officials must now begin the task of identifying and selecting a candidate to contest the upcoming election for the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District to run alongside Cllr Thomas Mulligan from Mohill.

The Local Elections are expected to be held in June 2024.
