Cllr Enda McGloin said that he and his fellow councillors had received a number of complaints with regard to an Active Travel project that is ongoing at Church Street in Drumshanbo.

He said that the road is going to be "significantly narrowed" and HGV drivers are concerned about being able to navigate the street safely.

Darragh O'Boyle, district engineer with Leitrim County Council, said his office has had numerous complaints about "kids not being able to walk from the town to the school".

Cllr McGloin responded that the drivers are saying they are "concerned about the welfare of their vehicles" and "their ability to drive safely" with Mr O'Boyle responding "or quickly".

Cllr McGloin asked if a representative from Active Travel could meet with elected members at the location with Cllr Brendan Barry saying he was "hoping to meet with an engineer at the location this week".

Cllr Barry said that it was about finding a balance between slowing cars down and allowing larger vehicles to pass safely.

Mr O'Boyle said that only one car park space was lost adding "you have to have some faith in the engineers that they are trying to keep everybody happy by providing a means by which children can get to school while slowing down traffic."

He said the ramped pedestrian crossing was introduced because motorists drive "way too fast" at the location, he said.
