'Ophelia.maybe' play by Joachim Matschoss comes to The Glens
The Glens is delighted to present an exciting, packed programme starting on Friday, October 07 at 8pm, with a new theatre piece touring nationally and internationally, 'Ophelia.maybe' by Joachim Matschoss.
'Ophelia.maybe' tells the story of two friends trying to make it in the Performing Arts industry as they dream of the big break while preparing for auditions, reading plans and studying characters. Above all, they are friends. However, how far will they go to be successful?
The play is being presented by BYTE (BackYardTheatreEnsemble), an independent company that produces theatre dedicated to devised issue-based work nationally and internationally for many years.
Joachim Matschoss is a poet and playwright from Melbourne/Australia.
On October 13, 'For The Love Of Mary' is set to be on The Glens stage at 8pm.
The play tells the story of Irish womanhood in all its challenges. Viewed through the lens of a woman from a Protestant/Unionist background, displaced by the troubles of a Nationalist community, she recounts her journey to uncover what lies beneath the world's most iconic mother.
Frankie Gavin with Catharine McHugh will be live on stage on October 14 at 8pm.
Frankie Gavin is one of the premier Irish fiddler players and is synonymous with De Dannan, the globally renowned band he founded in the mid-1970s with Alec Finn and others. In 2018, Frankie won Traditional Musician of the Year at the Gradam Ceoil Awards.
Accompanying him on stage is Catherine McHugh, one of the most outstanding young accompanists in Irish traditional music. Growing up in an area steeped in Irish traditional music, Catherine listened to and played with many of the outstanding East Galway musicians. Her approach to piano accompaniment is far beyond her years, with a unique, lived-in understanding of the music she performs.
Catherine is in high demand as an accompanist and has performed at many festivals and concerts nationally and internationally.
Together, they will present their latest album, "Port Eireann", a heady mix of classic traditional reels and jigs, as well as a surprising new composition and a tribute to Joe Burke.
On October 29, Tiernan O'Rourke will be on the stage at 8pm.
In November 2021, Tiernan and two foster brothers born through the womb of Éiru on Sliabh D'Ean in Sligo embarked on an epic pilgrimage lasting 32 days and 32 mountains and 32 flags of Éires sovereignty.
Having taken the high ground during those dark times, Tiernan has since put his musical abilities to service on the streets and in the towns, cities and villages of Éire by bringing his piano and vocals across the country in a bid both to keep his newfound soul alive and uphold the spirit of the people.
Equipped with some home-conjured spirit to warm the cockles of the heart as the doors to the other world open at Samhain. Tiernan humbly offers his music from his heart and his own telling of the tale of elopement that has haunted himself and the country as a whole.
