PJ Murrihy, accompanied by Seamus Shannon, performs live on stage at the Coleman Music Centre on October 28 at 8pm.
From Mullagh in Co. Clare, PJ Murrihy is an Irish singer-songwriter who has penned many hits and songs recorded by some of Ireland’s leading entertainers while digging up old gems like ‘Pat Murphy’s Meadow’.
PJ Murrihy learned songs from family members, including his mother and two of his uncles and started playing music professionally with Michael Sexton Senior, Jimmy Ward and David Culligan.
He created a very much in-demand group called ‘The Bannerman’. Due to his growing popularity, he was asked to play and record two albums with the infamous Kilfenora Ceili Band.
In later years, he teamed up with accordionist Seamus Shannon, and they have been performing their own specialised Irish traditional and country songs.
Seamus Shannon hails from Elphin, Roscommon and is a world-renowned accordion player. Seamus also hosts a popular radio program called ‘Shannon’s Corner’ on Shannonside Northern Sound Radio, where he plays a mix of traditional, folk, country and Irish music with special guests joining the airwaves.
Shannon’s Corner is a long-established show that has gone from strength to strength over the years and continues to draw listeners from near and far.
The concert takes place on Saturday, October 28, at 8pm at the Coleman Music Centre, Gurteen, Co. Sligo. Early booking is advisable as this was a sell-out show last time round. For more information, contact 071 9182599 or access www.colemanirishmusic.com.
