The Dock is set to host a Northern Soul night on October 27 at 8pm. DJ Karl Brennan will play unstoppable '60s soul music in Gallery 2 alongside paintings by Andy Parsons.
Karl Brennan is an Irish-based DJ / Producer whose styles include Progressive Trance, Trance and Tech - Trance.
He has played at some of the most well-established clubs throughout Ireland, lining up with some of the world's biggest acts, such as Richard Durand, Randy Katana, BK, Gareth Emery, Mr Sam, Paul Webster, Bryan Kearney, Rank 1, Gary MaGuire, Jordan Suckley, Alex Kidd, Organ Donors, Anne Savage, Kutski and many more.
Andy Parsons is an artist living and working in Sligo. Growing up, Andy was surrounded by Northern Soul and, before the pandemic, regularly attended Northern Soul nights.
His current exhibition in The Dock, The Dancers, consists of imagery based on nightclubbing and the Northern Soul scene, and through these paintings, the artist explores the universality of music and dance and the idea of joy.
According to Andy, music and dance are often central to people's stories about their lives and are recounted as moments of pure joy.
The sense that music and dancing will change in their specifics but retain their universal importance as part of our emotional lives and identity is a concept that is explored through his work.
This event is supported through the Night-Time Economy After Hours at the Museum scheme. Admission is free.
The Dancers is currently on show in The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon, alongside two other exhibitions, showing the work of Banbha McCann and Fionna Murray.
The exhibitions run until December 2, and admittance is free. For further information about the exhibitions and the Northern Soul DJ set, visit thedock.ie.
