After deliberation and discussion with his family, colleagues, friends and the local loyal Fianna Fail organisation, Cllr Caillian Ellis has decided to not contest the Local Elections next June 2024.

“I have had the extraordinary privilege to serve the people in my Electoral area for the last twenty five years on Leitrim County Council,” said Cllr Ellis.

“I am proud that the people have re-elected me every time, in five consecutive Local Elections,” he said.

Cllr Ellis was first elected to Leitrim County Council in 1999 and was returned in every subsequent election.

“During my time as a Councillor, and together with my fellow Councillors across the political divide, we worked to deliver and improve the facilities, amenities and infrastructure to better the lives of the people we serve.

“We had many successes over the years. Working with dedicated and competent officials in Leitrim County Council, with local Community and Voluntary groups and with members of the general public, we practiced the old proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” and together we achieved a lot.

“I enjoyed my time as a Councillor. There comes a time when you must take stock, reflect and be prepared to hand the "baton" on to allow others to have the opportunity to put themselves forward to represent the people of this great area.

“The party has time now to decide on who should be the candidate to succeed me, and that candidate will have my full support,” he said.

“I want to thank my family for all their support and patience over the years, the many people that campaigned for me, the loyal public that voted for me election after election, and put their trust in me.

“I also want to thank and acknowledge my colleagues (former and current) who served with me on the Council, the Management and Staff of Leitrim County Council and last, but not least, the local media - the Leitrim Observer and Shannonside Radio.

“I look forward to a new chapter in my life after the elections next year and wish all my Councillor colleagues every good wish in the next Council term,” concluded Cllr Ellis.
