Technical notice regarding declarations of movements of organic manures

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has confirmed that the deadline for all farmers, including Nitrates Derogation 2023 applicants, to declare movements of organic manure off their holding’s this year is the 31st of December 2023.

All movements must be declared and verified online by this date.

Accepting that some farmers have recently experienced flooding of storage tanks, it is recognised that there may be a need to move slurry to other tanks. Therefore, the deadline to declare movements for Nitrates Derogation 2023 applicants has been extended to the 31st of December 2023.

A demonstration video and user manual for the On-Line Slurry system can be found here: www.gov.ie/nitrates
Measures all farmers can take to avoid exceeding the nitrates limits of 170 kg/ha (or 250 kg/ha for derogation applicants) include:

  • Reducing livestock numbers
  • Obtaining additional land
  • Exporting enough slurry/farmyard manure and declaring the movement online.

Further information on Nitrates is available at the following link: www.gov.ie/nitrates.

Farmers not already registered for agfood.ie can do so by logging onto www.agfood.ie and clicking the 'Register' button.
