Irish Design Week 2023 takes place in Leitrim

Irish Design Week is a national programme of events from the Design and Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) taking place across Ireland from 13-17 November 2023.

The theme of this year's Irish Design Week is 'Is Folklore the Future?' - Throughout the week, DCCI is curating and hosting a series of events focusing on Ireland's rich heritage of folklore and storytelling – currently hot topics in international design circles.

Key events in the Irish Design Week 2023 calendar taking place in Leitrim include:

Artist-led server networks

Location: Manorhamilton (An artist-led space), Main Street, Leitrim

Dutch art and design collective varia are visiting North Leitrim to work with the collective ^ on artist-led servers as a device for storytelling using contemporary technologies.

Local artist Shane Finan will facilitate a discussion on using server technologies as artworks. This follows the project 'Waking the land', where folklore from Benbo Mountain was used to engage audiences in social events about loss, in partnership with the Glens Centre and supported by the Irish Hospice Foundation.

Myth and Irish techno-cosmology

Location: The Leitrim Design House, The Dock Arts Centre, St. Georges Terrace, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim

Artist Dr. El Putnam and writer Mike McCormack have been collaborating on a new project exploring myth as a storytelling device through contemporary technologies and performance.

They will present this work and their past project in open conversation, chaired by Paul O'Neill, co-director of DATA (Dublin Art and Technology Association).
