Classic Cinema with a twist at The Dock

Classic Cinema with a twist at The Dock

‘To Catch a Thief’, the 1955 romantic thriller by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Gary Grant and Grace Kelly, comes to The Dock on November 18 at 2pm.

The film tells the tale of retired yet notorious cat burglar John Robie (Cary Grant) as he attempts to clear his name after a series of imitation burglaries occur along the French Riviera, where he now lives.

His adventures connect him with Grace Kelly’s character, Francie, a victim of the latest spate of jewellery heists.

When Francie suspects Robie of being the thief, he must catch the real perpetrator to clear his name.

In advance of showing the movie, audiences will be in for a treat, as they are warmly invited to a short performance by writer and performer Isadora Epstein.

Isadora Epstein collaborates with visual artists by temporarily transforming their exhibitions into theatrical sets, such as The Dock’s current exhibition, ‘This Picture Show’ by Banbha McCann.

For her paintings, McCann has taken imagery from ‘To Catch a Thief’, and repeats certain motifs to explore our responses to imagery and the symbolism presented in the film.

Following the short performance, the artist will lead audiences to the performance space to watch the movie.

Isadora Epstein’s performance starts at 2pm on Saturday, November 18, and will be followed by the showing of ‘To Catch a Thief’.

Tickets cost €5. For further information about the afternoon’s event and for bookings, visit www.thedock.ie or call The Dock box office on 071 96 50 828.
