Dromod footpath is covered in moss and extremely dangerous

Cllr Sean McGowan

Cllr Sean McGowan asked Darragh O’Boyle, District Engineer, to put in place a programme of works to carry out the cleaning of the footpath from the railway bridge to the Fairways Housing Estate in Dromod.

"It is covered in moss and is extremely dangerous and slippery for pedestrians who use it daily," he said at the latest meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District.
In addition, Cllr McGowan said there are two public lights out of order along that footpath for the past number of months.
The report by the Roads office said the district office will repair the public lighting along this footpath and will apply the sweeper to this section of public footway.
Cllr McGowan said he believed that lights have been repaired since but said the footpath needs to be cleaned.
Mr O'Boyle said the way to reduce moss on a footpath is to cut down trees and "if the landowner there wants to cut down the trees, it would be a great idea."
