Rooskey residents concerned for their safety due to speeding motorists

Cllr Sean McGowan called on the Senior Engineer, Terry McGovern, to carry out a review, in conjunction with the Gardaí, of the speed limits on Local Road No. L-1001-0 at Aughnahunshin, Rooskey with a view to reducing them to 50 Kmph, and also to look at the possibility of installing rumble strips along the road. In a motion at the latest Carrick-on-Shannon MD meeting, he said that motorists tend to speed along this section of road, where there are three housing estates and a number of single houses and with young children and elderly people living along this road, adding, "they are concerned for their safety with the speed on this road." 
A report by the Roads office said the national speed limit review is currently taking place and the outcome of which will dissipate to all local authorities. Leitrim County Council speed limit review will then be put forward to elected members for consideration and approval.

The motion was supported by Cllr Des Guckian. 
District engineer, Darragh O'Boyle said that he agreed that reducing the speed limit to 50Kmph at that location was advisable but the council must "wait for the national speed limit review to happen and then come back with our own speed limit review, which will be put before elected members for approval."
