At a meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District this week, the long-running saga of the Hartley group scheme affecting about 50 households in the Carrick-on-Shannon area was raised once again.
Justin Fannon of Leitrim County Council said he liaised with the environment section and the water services team got the prices back from the consultants (Jennings O'Donovan) and met with the committee of the scheme. "The figures, as you'd expect in the current climate, haven't come down on the previous costing; a significant cost."
The revised cost estimate has gone to Kieran O'Donnell, Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning.
Cllr Enda Stenson said his "heart goes out to the committee; they have done everything that was asked of them" and added "hopefully, sooner rather than later, we will hear back from the Minister's office".
Cllr Sean McGowan said he believed the government now had to "step in" adding that it was "a serious situation."
Cllr Des Guckian said that the committee have been left with significant costs and "have made it clear to us that they are hugely in debt and it's just not fair."
Cllr Stenson said that "hopefully, the outcome of this will be positive in the long run."
