Thieves make off with €300 of goods from Drumkeeran shop

A local businessman who employs five people in the village of Drumkeeran was robbed in broad daylight on Sunday, November 26, when two people brazenly walked out of his shop with €300 worth of goods.

Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, Soumitra Pal who runs the Nearby shop on Mona Street in the village said that an older woman and a younger man entered the shop around 4pm that day

“They were stealing from every place in the shop and distracted the man working in the deli section and left with an entire trolley; they just ran away,” he said.

This woman was also involved in the robbery from the Nearby shop in Drumkeeran.

He said the pair also filled their pockets with items and also had bags full of goods when they left the shop.

When asked if alcohol was taken from the shop, he explained that this item is behind the till so they did not have access to it.

“They are not local. I'm not sure where they are from but people have told me that the car has an English registration,” he said.

The incident was immediately reported to An Garda Síochána but he said he has not heard anything since.

“I've called three or four times to the Gardaí but I haven't heard anything back,” Mr Pal said.
