A three-day poetry festival takes place in Carrick-on-Shannon

“Winter Wishes - Words for Winter”, a three-day festival of poetry and storytelling for young people, curated by poet Hazel Hogan, takes place at The Dock from December 14-16.

The event aims to bring together young writers from 1 to 13 years on a captivating journey into the realm of storytelling and creativity.

Children are invited to The Dock for stories, poetry and music with Candlelit Tales, storyteller Paul Timoney, early child educator Cliodhna Noonan, and the festival’s curator Hazel Hogan.

Whether exploring the mysteries of ancient lands, embarking on magical quests, or meeting whimsical characters, every moment will be a new adventure waiting to unfold.

Through hands-on activities and imaginative play, children will have the opportunity to express themselves, learn and grow in a nurturing and engaging environment.

They will create their own stories and have their voices heard in creative writing workshops aimed at sparking their creativity.

“Winter Wishes” is an opportunity for children to come together, celebrate the joy of storytelling, and create their own stories.

The festival is funded by the Leitrim Arts Office and Arts Festival Investment Scheme 2023.

A number of individual events will take place throughout the festival, with events on Thursday for school groups and those on Friday and Saturday for individual bookings.

All events are age-specific, so be sure to book your child into events appropriate for their age.

The programme of events includes: Storytelling workshop with Paul Timoney, Creative Writing Workshop with Hazel Hogan, Storytelling Adventure with Cliodhna Noonan, Storytelling performance with Candlelit tales, Creative Writing Workshop with Hazel Hogan, Pop-Up Kids Book shop with Kid’s Own, Our Poet-tree for Winter Wishes - Words for Winter.
