Dublin’s Colm Skwirbat, an up-and-coming musician in the Irish blues scene, is set to play at The Island Theatre on December 30 at 8pm.
Colm is making a name for himself with his raw, distinctive vocals and unique spin on the genre.
Colm’s introduction to the blues came in the form of his father building a 1-string guitar from a cigar box and a broomstick and handing him the primitive instrument.
He discovered a love for the music and traditions of the Mississippi Delta, exploring the blues by going back to basics with a plethora of homemade stringed instruments, including 1-string and 4-string guitars.
His approach to the genre includes fusing elements of Irish traditional music, funk and rock into delta blues classics and originals alike.
While his original work marks a departure from his blues roots, his live performance maintains the authenticity and feel of the Mississippi Delta, resulting in a high-energy performance not to be missed.
Colm has performed at events such as Electric Picnic, Wild Roots, Body and Soul, the main stage at the International Rory Gallagher Festival, the Hot Press 40-year anniversary Rory Gallagher covers exhibition, as well as blues festivals throughout the country.
Tickets for €15 (excluding fees) are available at https://islandtheatre.ie/eventer/colm-skwirbat/edate/2023-12-30/.
