Cllr Felim Gurn
Cllr Felim Gurn said that while the new Manorhamilton public realm works on the Brae and Market Square area look fantastic, the brick work
needs to be sealed with a sealer to stop moss, algae and weeds growing up through the pavement.
Cllr Gurn said that there is a sealer available that fixes this issue adding that "we have invested €1.2m on the street" and that it needs to be sealed.
"When walking around the town at night, there's an issue there with weeds, algae and moss. Another issue that's come to my attention is that people are saying we need the road sweeper in, in the morning, with no cars around," he said.
In addition, he asked that the moss on the remaining footpaths around the town be removed to maintain a clean look on the capital town in the municipality.
Cllr Sean McDermott agreed with Cllr Gurn saying that "our climate is so damp that this kind of stuff thrives and it's better to have a sealant on it."
A report by the Roads section said that investigations are ongoing as to an appropriate method of treatment for moss in the town and the street cleaning rota will be looked at to address the concerns raised.
Eric Gilroy, engineer at Leitrim County Council, said that a new type of sealant is going to be trialed to "see if that will work for us."
Cllr Gurn said that paths are now slippery too and welcomed the response.
