Dromod drainage works to be done in the coming months

Cllr Sean McGowan

Cllr Sean McGowan asked when work would commence to provide additional street gullies along the road leading to Bofin Avenue and Dromod Harbour to prevent flooding and pooling of water in front of a number of homes along the road, following periods of heavy rainfall.

He was speaking at the latest Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district.

A report by the Roads office said the council are currently carrying out a survey of the existing drainage system on this public lane and the council intend to carry out gully construction this year once they have all the required data available.

Some of the existing gully connections are blocked or broken and the council will repair these as part of the work, the response concluded.

Darragh O'Boyle, district engineer said there was "quite a large amount of ponding and the gullies are probably not in the right place" and that they were getting quotations in to get the survey done.
"Before we put a spade in the ground, we need all the data and what we need to do. Once that's in and we have them on the ground, we'll get a full report back from the drainage contractors."

He said the works will be done through a drainage grant in March/April.
