Night time water restrictions remain in place for Drumshanbo, Ballinamore and Mohill

Alternative water supply locations listed

Night time restrictions will remain in place in three South Leitrim areas tonight to ensure a normal daytime supply for customers.

Power outages caused by Storm Isha resulted in outages on the South Leitrim Regional Water Supply Scheme and nighttime restrictions are now necessary to allow reservoir levels recover.

The restrictions for Drumshanbo, Ballinamore and Mohill will continue from 11pm each night to 7am the following morning until further notice. As a result of the restrictions, customers in these areas may experience reduced pressure and/or outages at nighttime.

Meanwhile, alternative supplies are available across South Leitrim with the locations listed below. (Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per Health Service Executive advice.)

Peadar Griffin, Water Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann, said: “The majority of our customers in Co Leitrim impacted by the recent stormy weather are now seeing normal supply returning. In South Leitrim, overnight restrictions will remain in place in Drumshanbo, Ballinamore and Mohill for a number of days to allow reservoir levels recover.

“We thank impacted customers for their patience as we work to restore normal supplies. We would also like to acknowledge our water services crews who have worked diligently over the last few days to resolve these issues.”

“We are also reminding the public to check for leaks on outside taps or in sheds and other unoccupied premises, and report any leaks they see in public areas so that they can be prioritised for repair.”

He also appealed to homes and businesses to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our website at www.water/conserve.

Customers are also urged to check water.ie and or report loss of service or visible leaks to assist Uisce Éireann to identify bursts. Live updates on outages are also available on X @IW_Care.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We are committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
