Deaths in Donegal

Michael (Mick) Lynch - Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Roscommon / Lucan, Co Dublin
Sergeant in An Garda Síochána on Friday, January 26th. ​After battling a long illness, Michael died peacefully, surrounded by his family, in the care of the staff of St. Vincent's Private Hospital, Dublin. Michael is sadly missed by his heartbroken parents Michael (Mickey) and Nora, brothers Derry, Frank, Conor and James, sister-in-law Gena, nieces, nephew, relatives, colleagues and a large circle of friends. Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí ag a anam dílis uasal. Removal to St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon, for 6pm on Monday, 29th of January for Funeral Mass at 12 noon on Tuesday the 30th of January. Burial afterwards in Drumlion Cemetery, Co. Roscommon. 

Tom Kelly - Glenfarne, Co Leitrim
Tom Kelly, Stranagress, Glenfarne, Co Leitrim on Saturday, 27th January. Reposing at our Lady's Hospital, Manorhamilton from 5.30 to 6.30pm on Monday evening with removal to St Mary's Church, Glenfarne, arriving at 7.00 pm. Funeral mass on Tuesday at 12 noon followed by interment in adjoining cemetery.

Josephine Kelly - London / Glencar, Co Leitrim
Josephine Kelly (Mally) nee Kerrigan, London and late of Gortnagregory, Glencar, Co Leitrim on Friday, 26th January. Predeceased by her husband Albert. Deeply regretted by her sons Charlie and Denis, daughters Angela and Jennifer. Brothers Desmond (Glencar), Colm (London) and her sisters Patsy (Ward) Galway, Maria (London) nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral will take place in London at a later date.

J.P. Fanning - Fenagh, Co Leitrim
J.P. Fanning, Drumlaheen, Fenagh, Co Leitrim, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, 27th January. Predeceased by his parents James and Mary-Jane, sister Eilish, brother Leo and his brother-in-law Brendan Beirne (16th November 2023). J.P. will be sadly missed by his wife Gretta, sons and daughters; James, Padraic, Ciarán, Declan, Carol and Edel, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law; Mike, Paul, Lisa, Aisling and Nicola, beloved grandchildren Conor, Ryan, Luke, Aoife, Sadhbh, Amy, Emma, Charlie, Lily, Darragh and Shayne, brother Frank, sister Brigie, sister-in-law Margaret, brother-in-law Bernie, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Reposing at his home in Drumlaheen (N41 Y189) on this Monday, 29th January, from 4pm until 9pm. House strictly private on Tuesday morning. Funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, Foxfield on Tuesday, 30th January, at 12 noon followed by burial in Fenagh Abbey Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu to the Irish Cancer Society in support of Night Nurses C/O Smiths Funeral Directors, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim.

Leo McGirl, Ratoath, Co Meath / Aughavas, Co Leitrim
The death has occurred of Leo McGirl of Ratoath, Co. Meath and Camber, Aughavas, Co. Leitrim. Peacefully in the loving care of Marymount Care Centre, Westmanstown, Co. Dublin. Pre-deceased by his devoted wife Rose and brother Charlie. Beloved father of Aine and Fergal and grandfather of Kate. Leo will be deeply mourned and sadly missed by his brother Pat, his son-in-law Joe and daughter-in-law Michelle. His generous nature, his loyalty and mischievous spirit will be lovingly remembered by all of his family, and by his wide circle of friends and neighbours. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 11 o’clock in the Holy Trinity Church, Ratoath followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. 

George Taaffe - Moyne, Co Longford
George Taaffe, "Rockview”, Moyne, Co Longford, formerly of Athy, Co Kildare. (Former principal of Dromard National School), on Friday, 26th January 2024, peacefully. Pre-deceased by his parents John and Kathleen and by his brothers Seamus and Jack. George will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, his beloved wife Eileen, daughters Paula Gorman (Maynooth) and Susan Keane (Lanesboro) , sons Barry (Glenfarne), Declan (Clane) and David (Australia), brothers Tony and Francis, daughters-in-law Oonagh, Lisa and Elaine, sons-in-law Kevin and Brendan, his beloved grandchildren Conor, Niall, Holly, Orla, Leon, Amy, Bella, Phoenix and Tara, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Removal from his residence on Monday, 29th January, to arrive at St. Francis Xavier Church, Moyne for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon, interment afterwards in Legga Cemetery.

Lynda (Martha) Curr - Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim
The death has occurred of Lynda (Martha) Curr of Allenbrook, Drumshanbo Co Leitrim, formerly of Shearwater, Woking, Surry, England. My wife Lynda (Martha) was from a large wonderful family (Bystram) too extensive to name here, they all loved her dearly and will miss her as long as they live on. Sadly missed by her husband, Robert (Bob) and her two children, Stephen (Alfie), and Hannah. Seven grandchildren, Joseph, Luca, Finn, Taeya, Sunee, Felix and Laila. We are all lost for words to say how much she will be missed.  Funeral Arrangements Later.

Eleanor Gannon - Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Roscommon
The death has occurred of Eleanor Gannon, Slí an Iarainn, Cortober, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Roscommon and formerly of Corbally, Elphin. Died peacefully on Thursday, 25th of January. Pre-deceased by her parents Josie and Helen and brother Noel. Eleanor will be sadly missed by her loving family, Sisters, Mary O'Connor (Cork), Bernadette Molloy (Drumshambo), Patricia O' Dowd (Croghan), Elizabeth O'Hara (Elphin) and brothers John (Elphin) and Joseph (London), Sister-in-law Helena, brothers-in-law Matthew, Joseph, Alo and Michael, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends. Reposing at Brady's Funeral Home, Elphin on Tuesday evening 30th of January from 6pm to 8pm, Requiem Mass on Wednesday 31st of January, in St Michael's Church, Drumlion at 12 noon with burial immediately afterwards to Drumlion Cemetery.

May their gentle souls Rest in Peace.
