They are actually holding back development in Manorhamilton - Warnock

Cllr Frank Dolan

Cllr Frank Dolan asked if any progress had been made on the proposed provision of a footpath/pedestrian walk on Castle Street bridge in Manorhamilton stating that a grant was allocated for this project a number of years ago, but no works were ever carried out.

He was speaking at the latest Manorhamilton municipal district meeting.
A report by the Roads office said the required wayleave for the proposed works is still to be resolved. Leitrim County Council is in regular correspondence with the solicitor in an effort to progress the matter.

Cllr Dolan said a footpath was needed because the "bridge is quite narrow and a lot of people walk across the bridge.

Eric Gilroy, engineer at Leitrim County Council revealed that the Active Travel team is trying to progress the project and the owner of the property has been contacted several times in relation to the project however no progress has been made to date.
"The team have been in regular contact with the solicitor who is in regular contact with the receiver for the property but there's no development," he revealed.

Cllr Warnock supported the motion, saying: "When we're dealing with banks and receivers and solicitors, it's a pity they don't step up to the mark because they are actually holding back development in Manorhamilton."

Cllr Mary Bohan agreed and asked what options are now available to the council saying that it was a health and safety issue.

Mr Gilroy said that he wasn't aware of any other available options but would look into the matter.
