On the 26th of January, past pupils, parents and staff gathered to pay tribute to Sinéad Ní Thorsnaigh, Principal of Gaelscoil Chluainín, Manorhamilton, on her retirement.
Sinéad embarked on her teaching career 35 years ago and was both an exceptional teacher and Principal of the Gaelscoil, since it opened its doors in 2007.
Throughout the past 17 years, Sinéad displayed so many qualities that are essential to being a school Principal. First and foremost, she was a gifted teacher.
Rosa Corr, chairperson of Coiste na dTuistí (Parents Association), presents Sinéad with a bouquet of flowers.
She was also a visionary leader and an advocate for the Irish language. This ‘grá don teanga’ was crucial to her appointment to roll out the Primary Curriculum Support Programme, to teachers all over the country.
She wanted to instil the importance of Irish as a spoken language in the classroom and was highly commended by all who attended her enjoyable Inservice days.

Sinéad was a wonderful communicator and she always saw the best in every pupil, emphasising their many strengths and abilities. Sinéad ensured that every child who left Gaelscoil Chluainín felt valued and respected.
As the saying goes – ‘after you climb a mountain, take time to enjoy the view’.
So, now it’s time for Sinéad to reminisce on her wonderful career, on how many pupil’s lives she has changed and how special and truly loved she is.
Gach dea ghuí ó gach duine i nGaelscoil Chluainín. Guímid sonas is sláinte ort i do chaibidil nua Sinéad. Go n-éirí leat agus tú ag dul ar scoir – tá sé tuillte go maith agat. Bain sult as am chlainne anois le Joe, Caoimhe, Aoileann agus Conor.
