Cllr Paddy Farrell called on District Engineer, Darragh O'Boyle, to review the “dangerous pedestrian crossing on Castlecara road in Carrick-on-Shannon at the junction leading up to hospital, as I have witnessed and got several representations of incidents there.”
Cllr Farrell said that he had witnessed “two near accidents” at the crossing and was receiving a lot of complaints about it.
He said something “needed to be done immediately because it is a danger; I saw two people nearly knocked down.”
Cllr Enda Stenson fully supported the motion and suggested flashing signs be installed.
Cllr Finola Armstrong-McGuire also supported the motion saying that “the crossing was tidied up greatly when cutting away bushes in the last few years” but added that she felt it could be “tidied up and lit up more as it's very much used by walkers.”
A response said that the positioning and location of this pedestrian crossing in 2014 was restricted due to the unavailability of land and “if and when this adjoining land is developed, we will seek a new location which will move the pedestrian crossing 20m toward the town.”
