Bus shelters to be installed in North Leitrim locations

A contractor is due to commence construction of the shelters

Cllr Padraig Fallon, who has long campaigned on the issue of bus shelters being provided, said he was seeking confirmation that bus shelter sites have been identified in Drumkeeran and also asked for a timeline to be given for commencement and completion of the project.
At the monthly meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District, a report by the roads office said that design drawings are currently with the National Transport Authority (NTA) for approval.
“Once approved, Leitrim County Council will instruct the appointed contractor to commence construction immediately,” the reply noted.
Addressing the meeting, Cllr Fallon said, “I've been chasing this for years and we've been on two, if not three occasions, on the point of the line without getting it over; There was a site identified and then it didn't suit for other reasons.”
He welcomed the news that a contractor is due to commence construction of the shelters saying it was a “good news story.”
He said that he has seen people in the wintertime, “standing in desperate conditions and I want to thank our area engineer, the Active Travel section and the local authority for their persistence on the issue as well.”
Cathaoirleach Cllr Justin Warnock welcomed the news adding that a bus shelter is needed in Kinlough.
“We are working actively for two for Kinlough but the location was the issue. We're trying to progress it as quickly as possible,” he added.
Eric Gilroy, engineer at Leitrim County Council, said that bus shelters are also due to be installed in Manorhamilton and Glenfarne.
