Creative Exchange Youth Art Exhibition takes place at The Glens Centre next week

Artist Lisa Callaghan and Theatre Creator Treasa Nealon are joining the Creative Exchange Youth Art Exhibition at The Glens Centre auditorium next Thursday, February 29, from 7pm to 9pm.

Over several weeks, they have collaborated on a series of workshops with young people exploring the local Leitrim legend of An Dobhar-chú. They will present the work created as part of The Leitrim Sculpture Centre.

As the legend goes, in 1722, a woman was killed by a vicious monster resembling an otter and a dog that came out of Glenade Lake, and her husband killed the monster. A second monster then came out of the lake and gave chase to the husband, and a battle ensued.

There are several different versions of the legend which have been passed down and changed through the generations.

The work they have created through a series of artistic workshops incorporating creative writing, collage, printmaking, film and voice recordings will be on display. Entry to the exhibition is free, and refreshments will be provided.

Treasa Nealon is a playwright, theatre creator and co-founder of The Rabbit’s Riot Theatre Company. She is a participant in the Irish Theatre Institute’s Six in the Virtual Attic Artists Support Programme.

Lisa Callaghan is a printmaker and the Grants & Development Coordinator with Helium Arts. She recently graduated with a postgraduate degree in creative arts management from the University of Galway and is passionate about the connection between the arts and health.

A joint initiative of Leitrim Sculpture Centre and The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton, the Creative Exchange residency programme supports artists from different art forms wishing to conduct interdisciplinary research and collaboration together.

Fostering creative exchange between the visual and performing arts, the residency attracts visual artists, musicians, actors, photographers, writers, dancers, designers, architects, video, filmmakers and digital media artists wishing to collaborate together on developing a new project and/or range of approaches and skills in advancing their respective practices.

It is funded by the Arts Council.
