Fine Gael candidate Caitríona Bergin applauds significant transport investment in Leitrim

Taoiseach threw North West under the bus by pulling application for N16 funds

Caitríona Bergin, Fine Gael local election candidate for the Manorhamilton Local Electoral Area (LEA), applauds the substantial investment in transport infrastructure allocated to Leitrim as part of the national funding allocation. The allocation, announced today, highlights a commitment to enhancing transport networks and safety measures across the county.

Leitrim is set to benefit from a total allocation of €5,276,909 across various measures aimed at improving road safety, maintaining infrastructure, and promoting active travel options.

Among the key highlights for Leitrim are:

Road Safety Improvements:                       

  • N16 Manorhamilton €50,000
  • N15 Tullaghan Traffic Calming Type D RSIS: €50,000
  • N16 Glenfarne VRU Type D RSIS: €145,000
  • N16LM Strabrick RSI Implementation: €130,000
  • N16 Drummahan Minor Works: €130,000
  • N16 Munakill Realignment: €100,000
  • Local Authority Support (Improvement): €213,000

Pavement Upgrades:

  • N16 Manorhamilton to Cornacloy Phase 2 Pavement: €600,000
  • N16 Manorhamilton to Cornacloy Phase 4 Pavement Scheme: €600,000

Total Investment in Road Infrastructure: €2,068,000

Additionally, Leitrim will see significant investment in major road schemes:

  • NDP - N4 Carrick-on-Shannon to Dromod (bypasses Drumsna): €1,000,000

This allocation underscores the government's commitment to enhancing the road network, ensuring safer travel, and supporting economic development in Leitrim. Creating safer and stronger communities.

Furthermore, the funding includes provisions for ongoing maintenance and support:

  • Local Authority Support (Maintenance): €25,800
  • Local Authority Support (Winter Maintenance): €10,000
  • NP Ordinary Maintenance: €115,507
  • NP Route Lighting: €44,423
  • NP Winter Maintenance: €113,179

Total Investment in Maintenance and Support: €308,909

A significant portion of the allocation is dedicated to promoting active travel options, including greenways:

  • SLNCR, Sligo to Enniskillen Greenway: €1,500,000
  • South Leitrim Greenway: €50,000
  • Local Authority Greenways support: €350,000

Total Investment in Greenways: €1,900,000
