Leitrim councillors outraged at current events

"Shame on humanity" as children literally starving in Gaza

Parents and children lay cuddly toys across the entrance to the Foreign Office in London to end the conflict.

Cllr Sean McGowan spoke of his outrage of current events in Gaza and how children and adults are "literally starving because food isn't getting into them; it's a shame on humanity."
He said he believes the US needs to move with regard to the issue. "It's a disgrace in 2024 and we have this conflict happening. It's appalling to see young children slaughtered and families not getting food," he told the monthly meeting of Leitrim County Council held in Kinlough.
Cllr Enda Stenson said he was "shocked at Joe Biden" adding "it's not right and can never be done in the name of the Irish people. It's wrong, wrong, wrong and a scandal."
Cllr Brendan Barry said that Rafah in south Gaza is a tiny area with 1.4 million people now forced into it.
"If you think of 1.4 million people living in Kinlough and no place to go and being bombed and shot at. There were over 100 people shot and killed who were trying to get aid from a lorry; it's unbelievable what's happening."
Cathaoirleach Cllr Justin Warnock also supported the motion.
