Agreement to have no local election posters in Carrick-on-Shannon MD

Members support Tidy Towns request

Agreement to have no local election posters in Carrick-on-Shannon MD

There may be no no local election posters in Carrick-on-Shannon MD

Members who attended the Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district meeting this week agreed not to erect posters for the local elections that are set to take place in June.

The discussion came up after chairperson Cllr Enda Stenson read out an email he received from the local Tidy Towns committee requesting that councillors refrain from using the banners this summer.
Cllr Stenson noted, "We didn't put posters before and with social media, Facebook, etc. I don't see the need for posters. I certainly won't be putting up posters."
Cllr Sean McGowan however said that those putting their hat in the ring for the first time, "may feel entitled to put up posters to get their face out there and be recognised."
Cllr Stenson asked, "Do we have an agreement here of sorts that we won't put up posters in the towns?" with Cllr McGowan saying he agreed with this suggestion.
District engineer, Darragh O'Boyle noted that "people are entitled to put posters under the Referendum Act".
