Plans for footpath between Drumsna and Jamestown stalled
Plans for a footpath between the villages of Drumsna and Jamestown may be put on hold for two years, councillors were told at a meeting on Monday last.
Cllr Sean McGowan asked acting Director of Services Justin Fannon to contact Roscommon County Council to find out what progress they have made with regard the provision of the footpath between the villages of Drumsna and Jamestown.
A report by Economic Development said that Roscommon County Council engaged Clandillon Civil Consulting to develop the Inter Urban Greyway pilot connection between Drumsna and Jamestown Villages along the L1037 and the project is currently at National Transport Authority (NTA) Phase 3: Preliminary Design, however, no funding was received in 2024 to progress the project further through this phase.
In terms of funding and the wider Roscommon context the NTA are committed to a large project in Ballaghaderreen for at least the next two years and Leitrim County Council will continue to engage with Roscommon County Council to encourage its promotion with the NTA, the response concluded.
Cllr McGowan described as “regrettable and bad” that there would be no more additional funding for two years. “All we can do is keep at them to try and progress the project,” he said.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Enda Stenson supported the motion.
Mr Fannon clarified that the response was “not saying that funding will not come this year but that the NTA are committed to a large project in Ballaghaderreen.”
