North Leitrim Women’s Centre created Story Quilts of some outlying villages on display in Sexton’s House and now recreates Manorhamilton town in story quilt form.
A spokesperson from the North Leitrim Women’s Centre said they “always felt a big Story Quilt of Manorhamilton was missing.”
With funding from the Creative Communities - Creative Ireland programme through Leitrim County Council, they will map the physical, historical, cultural, and environmental landscape, past and present, using a variety of creative techniques of Manorhamilton.
“We’d like to hear from women who want to be involved in this project over the coming months. Whatever your skill level, there’s a place for you in our story,” said the spokesperson.
Workshops, which will be led by talented local textile artists Liz Byrne and Phoebe Dick, will commence Wednesday, May 1, at 7pm in the North Leitrim Women’s Centre, Bee Park, but there will also be workshops in other venues and at different times.
It’s an appropriate date to start workshops as May 1 marks the start of the Bealtaine Festival, a month-long celebration of the arts and creativity in Ireland.
The project will include a Walking Tour of Manorhamilton, led by the Manorhamilton Historical Society, to spark our ideas.
Come to the North Leitrim Women’s Centre workshop, share your memories of Manorhamilton past and present, and let the creativity commence - share your skills and learn new skills.
