St Mel’s College TY Students presents ‘A Wake in the West’ theatre project

The Transition year students of St Mel's College, under the keen direction of Mickey Kenny, bring us the hilarious comedy 'A Wake in the West', a play that centres on the wake of Tom Healy, a man who was known to be 'fond of the drop'.

After a life devoted to alcohol it is no surprise that Tom's last wish is to be buried in the drink, at sea that is! Nonetheless, it creates chaos in the house and parish. Mourners pour into Tom's parlour, but not all come to pay their respects.

This is part of a very broad, busy, and vibrant Transition Year programme at St Mel's College, which includes weekly work experience ventures, community volunteer work, and modules that broaden and enhance students' skill sets.

'A Wake in the West' is the school's first theatre project and performance in several years. However, it is not the first performance of the school year for some of the cast, who joined the cast of St. Christopher's Services in a hugely successful production of 'Cinderella' in Backstage last December, demonstrating the calibre of student that represents St. Mel's College Transition Year Programme.

'A Wake in the West' performance takes place on Wednesday, May 8, at 8pm in the Backstage Theatre, Longford. Admissions are €10.
