The Sean Mac Diarmada statue in Kiltyclogher
The Seán Mac Diarmada commemoration committee are pleased to announce two commemorative events in Kiltyclogher to mark the 108th anniversary of the execution of the 1916 Rising leader in Kilmainham jail May 12th 1916 .
On Saturday, 11th May the Seán McDermott Boxing Club is hosting a boxing tournament in Kiltyclogher Community Centre at 7.30 pm with some top class bouts taking place. Promises to be a night of great action.
On Sunday, 12th May the annual Seán Mac Diarmada commemoration takes place. The Parade will kick off at 3pm from Straduffy Cross led by a bagpiper to the village of Kiltyclogher.
Wreaths will be laid at the monument by relatives of Seán Mac Diarmada followed by a musical tribute to Seán. The oration will be delivered by Chris MacManus MEP.
The original Seán Mac Diarmada cottage will be opened for tours thanks to the staff at Kiltyclogher Heritage Centre.
The committee are looking forward to seeing old friends and new over the weekend.
