Something for everyone at Jamestown Heritage Festival this weekend

Jamestown will host the Heritage Boats Association this weekend.

The beautiful riverside village of Jamestown is the place to be this weekend, May 24th-26th, for the Jamestown Heritage Festival.

There are a huge range of exciting and colourful events taking place across the three days with something for all the family to enjoy.

The visit of the heritage boats to the Shannonside village is always a big attraction and the spectacular boat lighting competition will take place at 10pm on Friday at the quayside.

Before that, there will be a Treasure Hunt on Friday afternoon from 1-3pm.

That evening at 6.30pm the Leitrim Male Choir and Friends will perform in the Sacred Heart Church (Admission €10).

Then at 8pm in the Marquee local popular folk and trad group 'Rakish' will perform, belting out great tunes for the evening.

Saturday 25th is a packed schedule of events. For those of a sporty nature there is a 5K Fun Run to Drumsna and back at 10am.

A Tug of War takes place in the town field at 11.30am.

Award winning Chef Sham from The Cottage will host a cookery demo in the Marquee at 1pm.

For the little ones there will be a 'Custard Pie' puppet show in the Marquee from 2.30pm.

While all this is going on, the quayside will be buzzing with a craft market at the quay from 12pm to 5pm.

There will be a huge amount of activities happening with a horse shoe throwing competition, fun dog show, vintage cars, Army display, sub aqua demo, Rapid River Responder demo, Scouts, street entertainment, face painting, woodland crafts, vintage toys and much more.

Food is also available at the quay by Bits and Bytes from 7pm.

Then to wrap up a great day, the band 'The Mass' followed by a DJ will entertain the crowd in the Marquee. Fancy dress in the form of the Peaky Blinders and the Great Gatsby will take place with spot prizes for the best entrants. (Admission €10).

Then on Sunday 26th from 1pm to 3pm a brass band will play on the quay while you enjoy a picnic.

The puppet show returns from 1-2pm and from 2-3pm the Jamestown Canal talk will be delivered by Mary Butler in the Marquee.

Archway Products will hold a workshop tour at 2.30pm and from 3-4pm Fionnuala Maxwell will perform 'Sharing Songs of the Shannon' in the Marquee.

The Heritage Boat Association presentations take place at 6pm and this will be followed by an open music session sing song with locals and boaters.
