Leitrim Youths Volunteer in Greece for Environmental and Cultural Exchange

In a remarkable display of community spirit and international cooperation, a group of young adults from Leitrim have embarked on a life-changing volunteering project in Xylokastro, Greece.
This initiative, organised in collaboration with Orfeas, a local Greek non-profit organisation, is generously supported by Good Energies Alliance Ireland (GEAI) based in Ballinaglera.
The project aims to foster cultural exchange and environmental conservation, providing the volunteers with a unique opportunity to make a positive impact while gaining invaluable life experiences.
The volunteers from Leitrim, driven by a shared desire to contribute to global well-being, have journeyed to Xylokastro, a picturesque coastal town known for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Their work focuses on various environmental and social initiatives designed to enhance the local community's sustainability efforts.
Orfeas, the hosting organization, has a long-standing commitment to community development and environmental stewardship. By partnering with GEAI, they have created a platform for young adults to engage in meaningful volunteer work that transcends borders and builds lasting connections.
Good Energies Alliance Ireland, known for its dedication to environmental advocacy and sustainable development, has been instrumental in supporting this initiative.
By funding travel expenses and providing logistical support to volunteers from Leitrim for over five years, GEAI ensures that these young volunteers can fully immerse themselves in their roles without financial burden.
In Xylokastro, the volunteers are involved in a variety of activities that address local needs. These include:
The team participates in beach clean-ups, reforestation projects, and wildlife protection initiatives. Their efforts help preserve the natural beauty of Xylokastro and raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.
Volunteers work with local schools and community centres, organising educational workshops and cultural exchange programs.
These activities foster mutual understanding and respect between the volunteers and the local residents.
