Leitrim woman’s marathon effort results in €7000 boost for North West Hospice

Michelle Beirne and her brother Johnathan presented the formidable cheque together

Michelle Beirne from Mohill organised a fundraiser for North West Hospice for the month of May in remembrance of her mother, Mai Beirne, who sadly passed away in June 2019 after battling cancer.

The "Miles for Mai" fundraiser featured Michelle running over two marathons throughout May, covering a total distance of 60 miles. Michelle organised the fundraiser on iDonate with a goal of €3000, but her efforts were met with tremendous support, resulting in an impressive €7000 raised for North West Hospice.

Michelle selected running as her challenge to pay tribute to her mother, who completed the Dublin City Marathon twice during her running years.

Michelle and her brother Johnathan Beirne presented the cheque of €7000 to North West Hospice on July 11.
