Leitrim fans slam overcrowded train to Dublin

Leitrim fans slam overcrowded train to Dublin

A recent train journey on the Sligo to Dublin route has left some passengers outraged after experiencing overcrowding and disorganisation. The route was exceptionally busy on Sunday, August 4 as Leitrim passengers travelled to Croke Park for the Ladies All-Ireland Intermediate Championship final.

One passenger, Eileen Hanna, travelled from Dromod with her partner Clodagh and described the uncomfortable experience they had, where the train was booked beyond capacity.

She explained it appeared tickets had been sold for non-existent carriages D, E, and F, reducing what was supposed to be a seven-carriage train to just four.

“Although we had booked our tickets and seats we were packed on the train like sardines and forced to stand in the aisle,” Eileen said.

“I am appalled at the lack of organisation. I am from Scotland, living in Leitrim for nearly five years and have never experienced such a poorly organised and terrible train service in my life.”

Last August, pictures posted onto X of an overly packed Galway train sparked controversy and was called an “unsafe” environment by passengers. Irish Rail responded to the post saying that trains are designed to accommodate standing safely.

Irish Rail was contacted for a response but did not reply at time of publication.
