Tullaghan Pony Drive
The popular Tullaghan Pony Drive will take place on Saturday, September 8 at 3pm.
Entering its 34th year, the event is set to raise money for three charities - North West Hospice, North West Stop and for Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Tullaghan Pony Drive began in 1990, organised by Martin McGowan, his brother Peter McGowan, wife Mary McGowan, Brendan Sheridan and Mary Maguire. Every year since, it has taken place on the second Sunday of September.
This year, Aisling McGowan, Martin’s daughter, has taken the reins in organising the charity event.
“It’s the only pony drive that has kept going continuously. We’ve raised thousands over the years but it wouldn't be possible without people buying tickets, businesses that support us and people who turn up on the day,” Aisling explained.
“There’s people that come up from all ends of Ireland to our pony drive.”
The pony drive is a huge community event, attracting locals and people across the county, whether they be spectators or pony drivers.
This year, there are four prizes up for grabs. The first prize offers a choice between five lambs or cash equivalent, the second prize is a €200 voucher for the Selkie restaurant, third prize is €200, and the fourth prize is €100 in cash.
There will be an auction and raffle on the day, along with music by Damien Kelly and refreshments.

Tullaghan Pony Drive has also been sponsored €200 this year, to be split between the best turned out driving horse and the best turned out riding horse.
“People are very generous, and they also see where our money goes. There isn’t a family that hasn’t been touched by these charities.”
This is Aisling’s first year organising the pony drive, and she is determined to carry on the legacy of previous contributors who worked hard to make the charity event successful.
“Two of our founders have passed away so for me, it’s very important to keep it going, to keep everything they’ve done over the years alive and appreciate the hard work they put in.
“I hope I do them all proud, it’s a big commitment,” she said.
Tickets for the pony drive are on sale for €4 each, three for €10 or a book for €20 in The Anglers Rest and Spar in Kinlough.
Tickets are also available in Goodies Cafe and Dip ‘n’ Sip in Bundoran.
As the pony drive enters its 34th year, community spirit is set to shine and making meaningful impact with every ticket sold.
