Dromod station
Earlier this month, Cllr Sean McGowan proposed a motion to Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district requesting that the Council to again write to Mr Jim Meade Chief executive of Iarnród Éireann, to obtain a timeline for the installation of the new footbridge and lift at Dromod train station.
At the meeting, Cllr McGowan described the footbridge and lift as “something that’s badly needed,” because of the station’s high traffic and the difficulty older people may have moving between platforms.
A response from Irish Rail has revealed that all preliminary design works have been approved by the National Transport Authority (NTA) to move to planning, and Dromod train station should be fully accessible by Autumn 2026.
The Irish Rail board have also endorsed the project, pending NTA funding. If everything proceeds as planned, the planning application will be submitted in November.
The planning grant is expected to be awarded around the middle of Q1 next year.
Detailed design and tender will take place March through to June of 2025, with the tender being issued in July.
Site works will then commence in September or October 2025, with all works to be completed by August or September of 2026, subject to planning approvals and confirmation of NTA funding approvals.
