High-speed incidents have been taking place in Lurganboy Village, prompting safety concerns in the area.

Cllr James Gilamrtin asked that Manorhamilton municipal district carry out traffic calming measures in Lurganboy Village.

Cllr Gilmartin explained that the local community are very concerned about pedestrian safety in the village.

“The village serves as a way to Manorhamilton from the N16 especially when there’s a lot of roadworks ongoing.

“The speed is a problem and something needs to be done with some kind of traffic calming measures.

“It was highlighted on doorsteps during canvassing and there will be a fatality,” Cllr Gilmartin commented.

Cllr Gurn supported the motion, and told the meeting that he was told of a car caught travelling 150 kilometres through Lurganboy Village.

“That really highlighted it. There was an issue and there still is an issue, I think we have to put down ramps to slow down traffic,” Cllr Gurn added.

A reply from the Roads department stated that the Active Travel Section will investigate the feasibility of a further Active Travel Scheme to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in Lurganboy Village.

The reply also noted that an Active Travel Scheme had already been carried out in the village in 2022.
