Road safety concerns in north Leitrim lead to official assessment

Road at Rossinver graveyard

The road exiting the Rossinver graveyard on the R281 will be assessed for safety measures, Manorhamilton municipal district has heard.

Cllr Justin Warnock proposed a motion asking the Area Engineer of Leitrim County Council to investigate the road and deliver all works necessary.

Cllr Warnock told the meeting that there is a severe lack of sightline for traffic coming from the Kinlough direction.

“There’s no vision whatsoever. The cars have to go well out onto the road before they actually can see traffic coming.

“There’s an awful lot of cyclists on that road too. It’s an accident waiting to happen and something needs to be done,” Cllr Warnock said.

The motion was seconded by Cllr Fallon and gained unanimous support from councillors.

A reply from the Roads department stated that the Design Office will carry out an assessment of the situation and if sightline improvement works are required, an application can be made for funding under the Low Cost Safety Scheme.
