Councillors raise call for urgent inspection of poles in Leitrim

Councillors raise call for urgent inspection of poles in Leitrim

Concerns were raised during September’s Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting regarding the condition of poles in the area, following the collapse of a pole on the Manorhamilton to Dromahair road in August.

Cllr Felim Gurn proposed a motion asking the Municipal write to the ESB and Eircom and request they send out an engineer to assess the condition of some of their respective poles.

“With the winter season approaching and significant rainfall this summer, some poles are leaning out onto roadways and falling into nearby fields.

“The ESB and Eircom need to come out as some of these poles are 20 or 30 years old and something major is going to happen,” Cllr Gurn said.

“There’s a serious issue there in relation to Eir. There doesn’t seem to be any responsibility but yet you’ll get your bill.

“I don’t believe they’re checking these poles. Some of these poles are being put straight through trees and in Winter they will cause havoc,” Cllr Warnock commented

Cllr Fallon told the Municipal that he has noticed some poles being replaced in the last two weeks, but not enough to meet the actual need.

The replacement of poles appears to be connected to the National Broadband Plan.

Cllr Gurn’s motion was supported and the Municipal district will be writing to ESB and Eircom to address the matter further.
